Conference Hotel

Code4Lib 2020 will be held at The Westin Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Lodging

The conference has a block of rooms reserved at the Westin Pittsburgh, starting at a daily rate of $159 ($181.26 with taxes). This rate is valid between the dates of March 8 – 12, but only until Friday, February 14 or until the block fills up, whichever comes first. Rooms may be available at the group rate before or after the above March dates, based on availability at the hotel. While the reservation will require a credit card, it will not be charged until you arrive (you may also incur a fee if you do not show, or cancel outside of the allowable cancellation time frame).

There will be a reservation URL in your registration confirmation.

Check-in is at 3pm while check-out is noon. Included in our reservation is free access to the hotel's guest WiFi network.

Parking

Onsite Self-Parking: $22.00 per night

Onsite Valet Parking: $29.00 per night (with in/out privileges)

Workshops

Workshops are typically held at several convenient locations near the conference hotel. In the past, we've used spaces at local universities and public libraries. Please check your workshop's location.

Visiting the Museum

Directions

Don't forget your conference name tag and lanyard!

Shuttle services travelling from the hotel to the reception will be available for attendees. Buses will loop between the museum and hotel for the duration of the reception.

Transit

Using plain words: From the Westin Pittsburgh, walk 0.3 miles south towards Fifth Avenue at Smithfield Street. Take the 61C bus 20 stops to Forbes Avenue at Bellefield Avenue South. Walk 0.2 miles east to the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh. Estimated travel time is roughly 29 minutes.

Reception Details

When: Monday, March 9, 2020 from 6:30pm-8:30pm

We will be in the Hall of Sculpture and Scaife Foyer, located on the first and second floor of the museum. Light refreshments and drinks will be provided.

Accommodations

The Code4Lib community aims to make the conference accessible for attendees of all abilities. The The Westin Pittsburgh has a lengthy list of accessible services on its Overview page including accessible rooms, restaurants, parking, and routes throughout the hotel campus. Unfortunately, you have to scroll down to the Accessibility section and expand it to see what is offered, we cannot link to it directly.

Accommodation Requests

When registering, attendees were asked to include any accessibility needs they might require. We are doing our best to meet these needs. Everyone is encouraged to contact the accessibility committee if they have questions or new accommodation needs arise. The accessibility committee may be contacted by:

• Talking with a volunteer at the registration desk who will forward the request
• Asking for help from a community support volunteer

Newcomer Dinner

When: Sunday, March 8, 2020

The Newcomer Dinner is an opportunity for veterans of the code4lib conference to meet and welcome first-timers. Attendees sign up to join others for dinner the night before the main sessions of conference begin. See information about the dinner and the sign-up list here. Attendees are responsible in assessing the accessibility of the restaurant space of their choice.

Transportation

Attendees must arrange for their own transportation to the restaurants. To get a sense of the locations and neighborhoods, you can check out the Activities Map.

For restaurants that are not close to the public transportation stops, we recommend carpooling with a local, calling a taxi, or using a ride share service. Here are some public transit options for the various neighborhoods noted in the restaurant list.

LibTechWomen Meet-Up

When: Tuesday, March 10, 2020, 5:30PM to 7:30PM

Where: Bill’s Bar & Burger (in the Conference Hotel)

LibTechWomen is a supportive space for women and their friends to network, develop skills, build confidence, and lead positive change. Are you a lurker? Are you a newcomer? All are welcome!
Food and beverages are available for purchase at the bar, and afterwards some of us will go to Game Night or Karaoke! Come chat with fellow #libtechwomen people and meet wonderful colleagues in library technology!

Game Night

When: Tuesday, March 10, 2020, 7:30PM to 10:30PM

Where: Bill’s Bar & Burger (in the Conference Hotel)

Play games? Come join fellow code4libers in a few board or card games here in the hotel! Feel free to bring your own games as well. See the sign up list on the Social Activities wiki to list any games you might bring with you.

When: Any night between 8PM to 2AM
